VIA Rail
Universal Accessibility Policy
(in partnership with Left Turn Right Turn Transit Consulting)
VIA Rail is committed to a barrier-free experience for all of its passengers. Following the passage of Bill C-81, An Act to ensure a barrier-free Canada, VIA Rail retained O’Hara Aging + Accessibility to prepare and support the implementation of a Universal Accessibility Policy. This ongoing work includes:
-
Reviewing the current accessibility policies/work/assessments of VIA Rail
-
Benchmarking VIA Rail existing policy against industry leaders in accessibility policy and universal design from across the globe
-
Creation of new policy
-
Policy implementation plans for all of VIA’s main hubs including Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver
-
Change management plan to foster a commitment to accessibility across the organization
VIA Rail must complete this phase of policy implementation by June 25, 2020.
