Toronto HomeShare Program
O'Hara Aging + Accessibility supports the Toronto HomeShare Program. This innovative program creates inter-generational partnerships by matching older adults with a spare room or space in their home with a college or university student looking for affordable housing.
In exchange for reduced rent, the student contributes 5-7 hours/week to the dynamics of the home. This may include sharing a meal together, helping with light chores, running errands or walking a pet.
O’Hara Aging + Accessibility was retained to support the initial pilot program. Following its incredible success, we continue to provide program advisory services to HomeShare including:
-
Older adult engagement to connect older adults who are at risk of social isolation with the program
-
Ongoing updates to policies and procedures to ensure they are age-friendly and accessible
-
Advice and consultation on best practices for the program
-
Regular updates to Toronto City Council
-
Managing and maintaining strong relationships with community partners and responding to media inquiries
